Guy Takayama Presents, LLC, in association with Bud Light, announces the 1st Annual Surf City USA? Longboard Pro-Am Surfing Event and Festival on the south side of Huntington Beach Pier, April 20-22, 2007.
Featuring both professional and amateur surfing events, these World Longboard Championship Series? (WLCS) sanctioned longboarding and timed noseriding contests for men and women will run daily 6:30am-6:00pm. In another event sanctioned by the International Tandem Surfing Association (ITSA-WTT), professional tandem surfers from around the world will compete for points towards the World Tandem Tour Championship (2007).
The Gallery of Surfing Legends? -- featuring Linda Benson, Jericho Poppler, David Nuuhiwa, Paul Strauch, Bill Fury, Peter Townend and Bob "The Greek" Bolen -- will present a one-of-a-kind surfing exhibition. These amazing icons of surfing also will appear on Saturday afternoon at Duke?s Restaurant for poster-signings and photo opportunities.
The Guy Takayama Professional Noseriding Series with Open Longboarding for men and women and will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top men and women in noseriding and open longboarding.
The amateur event includes many of the 25 West Coast longboard surf clubs. Surfers? ages will range from under 10 years to over 70. The amateur tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday. Divisions include amateur noseriding and every age division for conventional surfing on a longboard.
The ITSA World Tandem Tour includes Maui (HI), Noosa (AUS), Seignosse/Hossegor (FRA), Huntington Beach, and ends in Santander (SPA). Numerous new young international teams will compete on Sunday only with a warm-up exhibition on Saturday, April 21.
The weekend?s Festival events feature shopping on the sand at vendor booths, a raffle with drawings for prizes including surfboards, wetsuits, skateboards, clothing and more. The terrific vocalist/guitarist Justin James, a rising star on MTV and ABC shows, will be featured at Duke?s and in a special beach concert.
As a fundraiser for the International Surfing Museum, the Festival includes a showing by Big Red Productions of Chasing Dora, Friday, April 20th, 7:30pm, Pierside Surf City 6 Cinemas. (see http://www.bigredprod.com/)
Topping the weekend festivities, see a series of marvelous exhibitions of surfing dogs shooting the curl and hangin? paws for a good cause. The Helen Woodward Animal Center (Rancho Santa Fe), the nation?s foremost animal care facility, and other participants will be on hand to show you some amazing pets and provide information on how you can make a difference by adopting an animal.
